Very close to Cornwall there is an eerie tale that is told and perhaps one that should be paid attention to. It is the tale of Hairy Hands. It all begins in the county of Devon to which Cornwall is its western boundary.
The Region
Hairy Hands is all about an occurrence that takes place in Postbridge on the current road known as the B3212. A road like many others throughout the region with one very distinct and frightening exception.
Unusual Incidents
As one may expect anywhere that vehicles are going to be driven there is bound to be a certain number of accidents. But, for this particular road not only have there been accidents but there have been some very unusual ones. These have been reported by both drivers of vehicles as well as cyclists and they have occurred since 1910. For those that have experienced an incident on the B3212 their tale of it is shocking and frightening. They report that the control of the vehicle seems to be put in the hands of something that appears to be hairy disembodied hands.
Reported Occurrences
It is not just one or two drivers reporting these unusual occurrences but several as many have seemed to survive with no more than their vehicle running into a verge. But there were other incidents where the drivers and/or passengers were not so fortunate.
• The medical officer for the Dartmouth Prison lost control of his motorcycle and was killed.
• A coach driver lost control of his vehicle and several passengers were ejected from their seats.
• An army captain reported being forced off the road.
As a result of these occurrences the story of the hairy hands became well told where news media began to report about it.
The Hairy Hands
Some of the reports reiterate stories of invisible hands taking over the steering of the vehicle and forcing the vehicle off the road as some of the drivers experiencing this fight feverishly for control.
Believe it or Not
Of course when it comes to something like the supernatural as this appears to be there are skeptics and those who work hard at providing logical explanations. One for example is that there are dangerous sections of the road where loss of control could hand. Some believers think the hands belong to a unknown man who died in a road accident on this particular road.
